Rare Manga and More: Why Mandarake Shibuya Is a Must-Visit for Every Anime Fan
Mandarake Shibuya is a must-visit shop for enthusiasts, boasting a wide array of rare items ranging from anime and manga to figurines.
Located within walking distance from Shibuya Station, its underground premises unfold like a labyrinth, filled with diverse products that entertain visitors.
The cosplay by staff members and the premium items displayed in showcases offer nostalgia and novelty to both children and adults. With its unique assortment of out-of-print manga and vintage toys, many of which can only be found here, the store provides ample enjoyment just through exploration.
Mandarake Shibuya serves as the ideal spot for hunting anime and manga goods, captivating visitors with its unique ambiance and variety of merchandise.
And in the surrounding area, there are scattered stores such as Animate, Jump Store, Nintendo Store, and Capcom Store. Shibuya may not be famous as a town for otaku, but it has many anime and manga shops nearby. It's also a great location.
I'll be reviewing Mandarake Shibuya!

The store located underground is incredibly spacious. You might find that even a full day isn't enough to explore every nook and cranny. While this can be a delightful experience, it might feel overwhelming when you're tired. When planning a visit to this store, it's wise to either have specific items in mind or ensure you have plenty of time to spare.
・Number of items : ★★★★★
The store is vast and packed with a wide array of products. From figures and manga to anime magazines, idol merchandise, CDs, DVDs, apparel, posters, fanzines, and plush toys – it's all here. Trying to see everything? That might be an impossible task, given the sheer volume of items available.
・Crowdedness : ★★☆☆☆
With its prime location and vast selection of goods, it's no surprise that this store draws a crowd. However, the space is quite cramped, with many aisles only wide enough for one person to pass through at a time. You'll likely find yourself saying "sumimasen" (excuse me) in Japanese far more often than you'd expect. You might even wish you hadn't brought a backpack, given how tight and crowded it is.
・Rare items : ★★★★☆
The selection of rare items is truly vast, especially the incredible stock of WSJ. Among my finds were the first cover of "Demon Slayer" and "My Hero Academia," each with its captivating cover. I'm always on the hunt for "Jujutsu Kaisen" issues, but they're becoming harder to spot with each visit. Sharing this might make them even scarcer, but if it means international fans can enjoy them too, then it's worth mentioning. I encourage you to visit this store and discover your own rare treasures.
・Uniqueness : ★★★★★
The variety of products and the unique store design truly set it apart from others. Seeing the staff in cosplay, you can't help but feel they're genuinely passionate about anime and manga. Even if you don't have anything specific in mind, I highly recommend visiting just to experience the charm of this shop. It's that captivating.
Discover Treasures at Mandarake Shibuya!
Among the plethora of rare items, I found this gem – the "Jujutsu Kaisen Key Animation vol.0" art book!
Have you guys snagged one yet?
It's incredibly cool. In Japan, it goes for about 8000 yen on Mercari.
But at Mandarake?
It was selling for just 3520 yen, nearly half off. If you're searching for your favorite content, like "Jujutsu Kaisen" for me, you might be able to get it at a much more reasonable price than the market rates!
